Zusammenfassung:To the Editor: Congratulations to Mr. Perry and his co-workers for their excellent article, 1 which clearly defines the current imbalance of research resources among our nation's medical schools and suggests ominous implications for the faculty, students, and administration of the "Lower 80" medical schools in the years to come. Although I agree with the authors' predictions, I disagree with their tacit assumption that this is the way it must be. The authors imply that concentration of biomedical research in a few centers is necessary because "Such research demands elaborate facilities and sophisticated instrumentation." They further state that concentration is "maximizing . . . No extract is available for articles shorter than 400 words.
