Isolation and genetic characterization of T1-transducing mutants with increased transduction frequency

Seven T1 mutants that transduce at higher than wild-type efficiencies were isolated. The mutants tranduced a λ imm 434 dg prophage 50 to 27,000 times more efficiently than wild type. The mutations are located in a small region of the T1 chromosome coding for early functions between the am5 (gene 2)...

Zusammenfassung:Seven T1 mutants that transduce at higher than wild-type efficiencies were isolated. The mutants tranduced a λ imm 434 dg prophage 50 to 27,000 times more efficiently than wild type. The mutations are located in a small region of the T1 chromosome coding for early functions between the am5 (gene 2) and am6 (gene 3) mutations. The mutations are nonidentical but closely linked. Using four-factor, reciprocal crosses it was possible to determine the order of the markers.
