Zusammenfassung:In a previous article, the authors presented results for the continuous, two-stage fermentation of Saccharomycopsis fibuligera and Candida utilis . The amylolytic yeast S. fibuligera was grown in the first stage, and a mixed culture of the two yeasts was maintained in the second stage. The first stage was operated under constant conditions near the optimum dilution rate for amylase productivity. Maximum biomass production occurred at a second-stage dilution rate, D sub(2), of 0.27 h super(-1) at a volumetric ratio (V sub(1)/V sub(2)) of 0.57. super(1) The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the volumetric ratio on this two-stage fermentation.
