Zusammenfassung:Winkler, as the 2009 Lenna Frances Cooper Memorial Lecturer, discusses the history of the lecture and importance of food and eating to a healthy lifestyle. Having worked with hundreds of long-term nutrition support consumers, she remain truly amazed how technology has made it possible for patients who cannot eat, digest, or absorb food to receive nutrients infused directly into the venous system and into the gastrointestinal tract. She adds that the act of eating is both physiological and symbolic. Through food people express prosperity, good health, strength, and love. Through food people obtain psychological comfort and hope.
