Zusammenfassung:	A series of soluble and stable bisanthracene bis(dicarboxylic imide)s M1–M4 were synthesized that display intensive absorptions in the NIR region. The fully fused bisanthracene carboximide M1 exhibited absorption maximum at 830 nm, with a significant 130 nm bathochromic shift in comparison with the partially fused anthracene dimers M2–M4.
