Zusammenfassung:A luncheon conference at the 1946 meeting of the Association was designed to sample current practice of resident psychiatric treatment of children. In organizing a report of the proceedings, it was not practical to include all of the aspects of resident work which were touched upon, nor to indicate the contributions of individual discussants. Resident psychiatric work with children in the United States dates back to the early days of child guidance. The establishment of security for the patient is a more important factor in a children's psychiatric residence than in the adult mental hospital. This advanced by the staffs understanding of the child and accepting him as he is. The cost of resident treatment programs is higher than that of work in the out-patient or child guidance clinic, or of care in the foster institution. However, it compares favorably with the expenditure in either mental hospital care or general hospital public services. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)
