Painless Jaundice

Zeidner presents a case about 37-year-old male who was detected with scleral icterus. The differential diagnosis for fatigue and jaundice with laboratory evidence of hepatitis is broad and includes viral hepatitis, drug- or toxin-induced hepatitis, ischemic hepatitis, peripancreatic malignancies, Wilson's disease, hemochromatosis, primary biliary cirrhosis, and chronic infiammatory states, such as autoimmune hepatitis. Given this patient's clinical history, laboratory data, and liver biopsy findings, the presentation was most consistent with a diagnosis of type 1 autoimmune hepatitis.
