With respect to the article by Dr. Waud on pharmaceutical promotions (July 30 issue),* it is unrealistic in the current economic climate to think that the government is going to pay for my continuing education, and neither will the educational institutions. The government is encouraging the private sector to take a greater role in such activities to save tax money. What little equity internists of my generation may have had is also eaten up by falling real estate values and increasing taxes. If the pharmaceutical companies do not help us, then who will?
