Reach Out and I'll Be There: Mental Health Crisis Intervention and Mobile Outreach Services to Urban African Americans

Describes the model used by Baltimore Crisis Response, Inc (BCRI) in MD to provide mental health services to community residents, primarily low-income African Americans. Services include psychiatric nursing supervision, a 24-hour crisis management hotline and residential care unit, outreach teams, a mobiletreatment unit, and rehabilitation programs. The model offers an effective way of bridging the gap between service needs and service delivery to the urban mentally ill, particularly African Americans, who have historically underutilized formal health care services. 1 Figure, 11 References.
