Three-phase Bone Scintigraphy in Maffucciʼs Syndrome

A 17-year-old boy had multiple painful, enlarging masses on both hands for several years. Physical examination of the hands demonstrated diffuse hypertrophy and deformity with multiple blue cutaneous masses; his left hand was more severely involved. A bone biopsy from the left hand revealed an enchondroma, and a biopsy from a cutaneous mass showed a cavernous hemangioma. The patient was diagnosed as having Maffucciʼs syndrome, a rare congenital, nonhereditary mesodermal dysplasia associated with multiple enchondromas and soft tissue hemangiomas.
