Zusammenfassung:	The thymus plays an important role in the maturation and differentiation of T lymphocytes. Many of these functions have been attributed to the epithelial component. The thymic epithelial cells are thought to play a key role in thymocyte maturation either by cell-to-cell contact or under the influence of thymic hormones. In this study, the appearance of antigens specific for cortical, subcapsular and medullary rat thymic epithelial cells during embryologic and postnatal life is reported.
