A Combined High-Fiber, Low-Glycemic Index Diet Normalizes Glucose Tolerance and Reduces Hyperglycemia and Hyperinsulinemia in Adults with Hepatic Cirrhosis

The pathogenesis of insulin resistance in hepatic cirrhosis remains uncertain; however, hyperinsulinemia is proposed as a causative factor. Barkoukis et al conducted a pilot study testing the hypothesis that a 21-day weight-maintaining, high-fiber, low-glycemic diet would lower postprandial plasma r...

Zusammenfassung:The pathogenesis of insulin resistance in hepatic cirrhosis remains uncertain; however, hyperinsulinemia is proposed as a causative factor. Barkoukis et al conducted a pilot study testing the hypothesis that a 21-day weight-maintaining, high-fiber, low-glycemic diet would lower postprandial plasma responses and improve insulin sensitivity in individuals with hepatic cirrhosis.
