Persistent numbness and burning pain in a man with HIV disease

In a case study, a 43-year-old, unemployed Black male, known to be HIV-positive since 1991, complained of burning in his right calf and thigh. The pain was incorrectly attributed to HIV neuropathy, but was eventually diagnosed as peripheral arterial occlusive disease.
