Zusammenfassung:Current opinion regarding HIV and breastfeeding is divided between those who believe that safe alternatives to breastfeeding must be made available to all HIV-infected women and those who, while supportive of that concept, doubt it can become a reality for the vast majority of affected women in impoverished settings. The study by Mbori-Ngacha et al is likely to bolster support for making breast milk alternatives more widely available while being interpreted more cautiously by others.
