Zusammenfassung:	Integrated backscatter (IBS) is a highly sensitive and specific quantitative measure of spontaneous echo contrast (SEC) in the left atrium including the left atrial appendage (LAA). LAA IBS values have a strong correlation with qualitative grading of SEC as well as with other known predictors of thromboembolism including atrial fibrillation, LAA area, LAA flow velocities, and the presence of thrombi.
