Relationship between increased longevity and stress resistance as assessed through gerontogene mutations in Caenorhabditis elegans

We review the status of the hypothesis that interventions that increase the resistance to stress offer the potential for effective life prolongation and increased health. Zusammenfassung:We review the status of the hypothesis that interventions that increase the resistance to stress offer the potential for effective life prolongation and increased health. The work focuses on research in the nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans and describes both published and unpublished results consistent with this hypothesis. Correlations between stress resistance and longevity among many gerontogene mutants is provided.
