Zusammenfassung:Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging was performed in 15 patients who underwent the Mustard operation for transposition of the great arteries, to assess the relation between systemic right ventricular mass and biventricular systolic function. Right ventricular mass index varied over a wide range and correlated inversely with right ventricular ejection fraction; this suggests that there is varying adaptation of the right ventricle to systemic pressure load and that patients with excessive right ventricular hypertrophy have impaired right ventricular and left ventricular systolic function, possibly due to demand ischemia.
