Carl August Baumann (1906–1999)

Suttie and Swan present a profile of Carl August Baumann, an instructor in the biochemistry department at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Baumann occupies a unique place in the history of the American Institute of Nutrition because as a graduate student he made the first oral presentation of research at the first annual scientific meeting of the society, which was held in New York in 1934. Thus, he initiated the tradition of graduate students presenting their research at the annual meeting.
