Comparison of numbers of circulating blood monocytes in men grouped by body mass index (<25, 25 to <30, ≥30)

In 360 middle-aged men, the circulating monocyte count was significantly associated with adiposity. An increase in circulating monocytes may be a marker of ongoing inflammation and could have proatherogenic effects in overweight/obese persons.
