Zusammenfassung:Discusses psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) principles and practices and their application to women with major mental illnesses. The purpose of the article is to put PSR principles and practices in action, applied to what is known concerning women with major mental illnesses. The article ill first examines gender differences the practical, realistic needs of women and men with serious mental illnesses, the differences which should be there in PSR services for men vs. women. Next the article discusses psychosocial rehabilitation service needs for women, the different kinds of help which may be needed by women in accessing the supports that are naturally available to them, and in developing skills for obtaining these supports. Finally it suggests that gender-sensitive practitioners and administrators should have an in-depth understanding about these differences to ensure that PSR practice has the knowledge, methods, and structure to meet the individualized needs of female clients.
