Vinyl sulfonium as novel proteolytic enzyme inhibitor

Vinyl sulfoniums were synthesized from vinyl sulfides by methylation, and inhibited the proteolytic enzyme papain. Inhibition studies suggest a mechanism by which the vinyl sulfonium inhibitor covalently and irreversibly modifies the enzyme. Graphic
