In order to investigate the role of host factors in Helicobacter pylori infection and immunity, two different strains of inbred mice, C57BL/6 and BALB/c, were infected with a standard H. pylori strain, SS1. A month later, infected mice were immunized orally with whole-cell lysates of H. pylori SS1 and cholera toxin on days 1, 3, 6, 30, and 54.
