Zusammenfassung: | Uses genetic methods to show that the dispersal of Carcharodon carcharias is sex-biased, with philopatric (non-roving) females and roving males. Presents findings that, in conjunction with other shared lifehistory features, point out low fecundity, long lifespan and late age at maturity, indicating that the population biology of C. carcharias may be more similar to that of marine mammals than to that of other fish. Notes the shark's 'vulnerable' categorisation and suggests the current findings may have implications for conservation strategies.
