Medicare

The Medicare program, which serves persons over the age of 65 years and many persons with disabilities, plays a large part in health care in the United States. Since the program was implemented, in 1966, the number of persons served has increased from 19 million to 40 million, and expenditures for Medicare have risen faster than those for any other major federal program.
