New advances in quantitative echocardiography

Conclusion Fifty years after the inception of echocardiography, its clinical applications continue to expand. Just as progression from M-mode to 2D echocardiography revolutionized the assessment of cardiac function and physiology. 3D echocardiography, DTI, and speckle tracking will undoubtedly lead to better understanding of cardiac disease and facilitate the diagnosis of complex conditions as they become routinely incorporated into clinical practice.
