Zusammenfassung:	Recent data on the expression and function of the ZIP family of proteins has suggested that these zinc transporters may be useful biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of human breast cancer. This exciting new area of research opens the door for the use of a variety of nutritionally regulated genes and proteins as screening tools not only for breast cancer, but for a variety of other diseases for which early detection is important.
