Hypothesis: Myostatin is a mediator of cardiac cachexia

Abstract Myostatin is a recently described negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass. This paper hypothesizes a role for this system in cardiac cachexia and insulin resistance and osteoporosis associated with advanced heart failure.
