Tuberculosis testing and treatment in special populations

Initial screening for TB is performed with the tuberculin skin test using purified protein derivative (PPD). Because of the variable prevalence of TB in special populations, the newest recommendations for defining a positive reaction are divided into three groups4 (see Table 1, page 25).
