Meeting the challenges of teaching in ambulatory settings: a national, collaborative approach for internal medicine

In Fall 1997, the Division of Medicine of the Bureau of Health Professions in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the Department of Health and Human Services sponsored a collaborative national internal medicine faculty development initiative to improve teaching in community-based ambulatory settings. The objective was to bring together the major internal medicine organizations to develop a national, coordinated strategy for faculty development for community-based ambulatory settings.
