PCR-positive tests for Tropheryma whippelii in patients without Whipple's disease

A study was conducted to determine if treatment of suspected Whipple's disease should be based on positive PCR findings alone. It was determined that bacterial or host factors may be necessary for the development of Whipple's disease, but not just PCR findings alone.
