Zusammenfassung:	By the mid 1950s, DNA had been firmly established as the carrier of genetic information. First, the 1944 experiments of Avery, MaCleod and McCarty showed that bacterial transforming principle was nearly all DNA. Second, in 1952, Hershey and Chase showed that DNA - not protein - was the infectious component of bacteriophage. Then, in 1953, Watson and Crick established that the molecular form of DNA is a double-stranded helix.
