Zusammenfassung:Footprints of a metal: The uranyl ion (UO22+) binds to selected proteins, at specific sites, with high affinities. This property was exploited to photocleave proteins at the UO22+‐binding site. Quenching studies show that free UO22+ is not responsible for the cleavage. This is the first report of protein photocleavage with high selectivity by the uranyl ion, upon excitation with visible light.
