Zusammenfassung: | Examines the ability of the US influenza vaccination system to ensure adequate supplies, provide security, and promote preparedness in the event of a pandemic. It is noted that influenza vaccination coverage falls far short of the recommended goals for seniors, children, & at-risk adults under 65. Questions that have been raised about the effectiveness of the influenza vaccination program are discussed. Recommendations made by a Working Group of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee include improving the delivery of vaccines in a variety of settings; reducing the financial risk of providers; helping providers increase the number of adult vaccinations; and expanding the rate of vaccinations among healthcare workers. There is also need for an influenza research program review that describes objectives and activities, and identifies gaps and areas needing additional support. |
