Zusammenfassung: | Background and Objectives Extension of storage of leucocyte‐reduced platelet concentrates (LR‐PCs) to 7 days has recently been introduced, but the effect of gamma irradiation on in vitro parameters was unknown.
Materials and Methods A paired experiment was carried out, with gamma irradiation on day 1 or day 5 with 25 Gy, and no irradiation served as a reference.
Results Measurements during storage up to 8 days after blood collection showed no significant differences of irradiated LR‐PCs vs. the control.
Conclusions Irradiation, either on day 1 or day 5, had no effect on platelet quality during a 7‐day storage period. |
