ON THE RISE OF WAGES IN THE BUILDING TRADES OF LONDON

MR. BRASSEY, in his opening remarks, said that in order to obtain information, as impartial as possible, he had obtained the assistance of Messrs. Hunt & Stephenson (surveyors), Messrs. Lucas Brothers (the builders), and of Mr. Howell on behalf of the workmen. He also remarked that a review of the fluctuations in prices which had taken place during an extended period, was a most valuable aid in tracing the relations between cause and effect, and in laying down principles for the future guidance of masters and men.
