Zusammenfassung: | The five Scandinavian countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden have all contributed essential and unique knowledge to the science of rheumatology. The origins have varied between the countries. Bridges from basic science and international contacts have been essential for the quality and vitality of a small specialty in small countries. Inter-Scandinavian links as manifested in congresses and in the Journal are the visible superstructure of a far deeper and fertile common culture.
