Massive Bleeding From Jejunal Varices in a Patient With Thalassemia Major Detected by Tc-99m Red Blood Cell Scintigraphy

Massive hemorrhage from the small intestine is uncommon and often difficult to access. Accordingly, the localization and treatment of bleeding originating in the jejunum or ileum can become a major challenge. A rare case of massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding from jejunal varices in a thalassemia major patient, successfully diagnosed by Tc-99m red blood cell scintigraphy, is described and illustrated in this article.
