Isolates of Leptospira from two human cases of leptospirosis in Denmark and France were studied using DNADNA relatedness, G+C content, 16S rRNA gene sequence data and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. These isolates differed from previously described species of Leptospira and are defined as Leptospira broomii sp. nov. The type strain is 5399 T (=ATCC BAA-1107 T =KIT 5399 T ).
Abbreviations: PFGE, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis
Published online ahead of print on 2 December 2005 as DOI 10.1099/ijs.0.63783-0.
The GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession numbers for the 16S rRNA gene sequences of Leptospira broomii strains 5399 T and L065 are AY796065 and AY792329 .
