Serum Uric Acid as a Harbinger of Metabolic Outcome in Subjects With Impaired Glucose Tolerance: The Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study

Niskanen et al studied the role of serum uric acid in predicting changes in glucose tolerance and insulin levels and in the development of type 2 diabetes in the Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study. Among other things, they found out that hyperuncemia has been an independent risk factor for progression to hyperinsulinemia and thereby preceded hyperinsulinemia in the 11-year follow-up of non-diabetic participants of Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study.
