Zusammenfassung:We designed this study to know the mortality rate of hip fractures after 3 years of follow-up. We admitted 194 patients with hip fractures (cases) from our reference hospitals and 184 without hip fractures (control) who were selected from an ambulatory health centre. After 3 years, morbidity and mortality causes were analyzed using medical records. Mortality rate in cases was 40% compared with only 16.5% in patients without hip fracture (control group) (p = 0.000; non adjusted RR = 2.4; adjusted RR = 3.9). In the multivariant analysis, age (RR = 1.1), heart failure (RR = 2.5), neoplasia (RR = 3.5), dementia (RR = 5) and hip fracture were independently associated with mortality after 3 years of follow-up. Patients with hip fracture showed a higher mortality (24%) than those without hip fracture after 3 years of follow-up.
