Genetic structure of natural populations of Aedes aegypti at the micro- and macrogeographic levels in Brazil

Genetic variation in 13 populations of Aedes aegypti from 3 regions of Brazil was compared using variation at 10 isozyme loci. Heterozygosities varied from 0.050 +/- 0.027 to 0.280 +/- 0.120, and a large genetic differentiation (F(ST) = 0.144) was observed among all populations. The largest within-r...

Zusammenfassung:Genetic variation in 13 populations of Aedes aegypti from 3 regions of Brazil was compared using variation at 10 isozyme loci. Heterozygosities varied from 0.050 +/- 0.027 to 0.280 +/- 0.120, and a large genetic differentiation (F(ST) = 0.144) was observed among all populations. The largest within-regions differences were found between populations from the urban areas of northeast Brazil (F(ST) = 0.152). Ecological conditions are likely having an impact on the population structure of Ae. aegypti in the different regions of Brazil.
