Zusammenfassung: | The surgical technique of simultaneous heart transplantation and aortic aneurysm repair has been reported previously. However, there is a subgroup of patients with end-stage cardiomyopathy requiring major aortic surgery who do not meet heart transplant criteria. The optimal treatment strategy for these patients is still to be defined. In this report, we describe the use of an implantable continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (LVAD) as an adjunct to extensive aortic repair for providing patients with an acceptable risk surgical alternative to palliative treatment. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of this approach in the published literature. |
