CAmden, Sir William Dugdale, and other of our antiquaries, have observed, that this family is denominated from Lumley-castle, situate on the bank of the river Weare, near Chester on the Street, in the bishopric of Durham, and descended from Liu ph, a Nobleman of great figure in the time of King Edward the Confessor, who married Algitha, daughter to Aldred Earl of Northumberland.
