Zusammenfassung:A SURVEY OF A RANDOM SAMPLE OF 1,435 AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC SERVANTS WORKING IN THE MELBOURNE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT (CBD) WAS UNDERTAKEN TO CLARIFY THE LIKELY IMPACT UPON STAFFING OF DEPT'S MOVED FROM THE CBD TO AN OUTER SUBURBAN LOCATION. THE SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRE, MAINLY MULTIPLE CHOICE WITH SOME OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS, & SELF ADMINISTERED, DISTRIBUTED, & COLLECTED THROUGH LIAISON OFFICERS IN THE DEPT'S, ASKED ABOUT COMPARATIVE ATTITUDES TOWARD 6 SEPARATE LOCATIONS IN THE METROPOLIS, CURRENT JOURNEY TO WORK, & DETAILS ABOUT PRESENT JOB & PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES. THE RANK ORDER OF PREFERENCE FOR LOCATIONS WAS RELATIVELY STABLE ACROSS A NUMBER OF CRITERIA, & APPEARED TO BE MAINLY DEPENDENT UPON THE RESIDENTIAL DISTRIBUTION OF PERSONNEL, THE DISTANCE BETWEEN HOME & THE PROPOSED WORK LOCATION & THE RELATED JOURNEY TO WORK. RESULTS OF THE SURVEY WERE AN INPUT TO THE GOVERNMENT DECISION TO RELOCATE 3,000 CBD STAFF TO THE OUTER SUBURB OF RINGWOOD. AA.
