Zusammenfassung: | The crucial problem for human societies has been the widening gap between technical progress & moral lack of progress. Some characteristics of industrial society which result in injury to social unity, & thereby endanger social well-being, are due to practices which place expediency before morality. The family, as an institution not shaped primarily by expediency, has been breaking down increasingly in recent years. Knowledge in the social sciences must be linked effectively to social policy making, & must be directed toward use by the people whose needs are now unmet. W. H. Stoddard. |
