Zusammenfassung: | The prevalence and correlates of HIV-related risk behaviors among adolescents and youths in Nigeria are poorly documented. This study aims at determining the prevalence and correlates of HIV-related risk behaviors among adolescents and youths in order to plan appropriate intervention measures. This is a descriptive cross-sectional survey using structured questionnaire and focus group discussion to collect relevant information. Most (74.6%) respondents were sexually active, of which 66.4% had multiple partners and only 38.1% used condoms always during sexual intercourse. “Decreased pleasure” (35.8%) was the main reason for not always using condoms. Positive attitude toward condom use was correlated with consistent use. In view of the magnitude of high-risk HIV-related behaviors, efforts need to be exerted to deal with the identified predisposing factors. |
