Zusammenfassung: | The violence that broke out in French suburbs in 2005 was simply an escalation of incidents that have been occurring in the Republic for the past 25 years. The 1980s marked the beginning of a new form of juvenile violence, defined as "collective" & "urban." The burning of vehicles, destruction of buildings, & confrontations among the youth -- most of them descendents of the colonial in-migration -- have been interpreted by the police as recurrent events of the times extended into the national space, & are already considered by the French academy as social phenomena. This paper describes the evolution of the phenomenon of the "urban riots" in France, which cannot be understood without examining the reactions that these events aroused in the social & political spheres & considering the various perspectives of them, trying to show the narrow view of certain currents that relate the emergence of the "juvenile revolt" with the legitimacy of the traditional values & ethnic & cultural origins of the protagonists.
