Zusammenfassung: | Issues of public space are dealt with in the chapters on public discourse: on gay and lesbian identity, on foreignness as exemplified by the increase of foreign domestic workers, and on changes in the perception of cross-straits relations through TV call-in shows. Chin-ju Lin discusses the policy on importing foreign domestic workers, and argues that the stereotyping and stigmatisation of these foreign women workers as the ethnic other and an inferior class, really show Taiwanese uneasiness with a deficient ethnic identity and insecurity in international relations. |
