This article proposes a snapshot of the contemporary family by bringing out the principal tendencies & the major transformations that the family cell has known these past decades. The advent of family democracy & the development of equal relations between family members influence the way today's parents perceive their role. Faced with drug abuse, the families often feel deprived & are seized with contradictory representations of the phenomenon. However, the family remains unquestionably the first & principal environment of an individual's life. Recognizing the essential function of the family is vital to the understanding & the solving of social problems.
