Zusammenfassung: | Hypotheses regarding the relationship of job, patient, & provider characteristics to burnout are tested using questionnaire & inventory data from 154 health service professionals in a religiously affiliated general hospital in a major midwestern city. Findings indicate that burnout is inversely related to 2 job characteristics -- perceived communication adequacy with supervisors & degree of formalized work environment -- & to 3 provider characteristics -- age, marital status, & years of experience in present position. The finding on the inverse relationship between the degree of formalization & burnout is discussed, as it runs contrary to the hypotheses & to prior research. 3 Tables, 37 References.
